The central question behind the project was: How can light create a unique cinematic experience without distracting from what matters most, the film itself?
mbeam developed a custom lighting concept that immerses the different auditoriums in dynamic 360° lighting scenes, responding to the cinematic experience and creating a dramatic arc from the moment visitors enter the auditorium until they leave. The new premium cinemas are given their own artistic, spatial lighting identity and choreography.
Lighting Choreography for the Dolby Atmos Trailer
Through custom programming, the colour moods of the dynamic trailer are extracted and translated onto the side walls and ceilings of the auditorium. Moving elements from the trailer, such as clouds, flowing water or fragments from explosions, are extended beyond the screen and carried into the entire space.
This creates the impression of being immersed in the cinematic action rather than simply watching it from a seat.
The individual elements of the lighting design are pre-programmed and can be triggered automatically. Additional effects for the trailers were programmed using the original trailer material and individually adapted to the pixel resolution and spatial configuration of nine different cinema auditoriums.
For the Hamburg project, custom luminaires were specifically designed, developed and realised.
