In addition to the prevailing architectural lighting, mbeam installed an unique light art project at the Kaufingertor in Munich: “Urban Horizon”. The idea behind this installation: In the middle of the city, in one of the biggest shopping streets, in between rows of houses, in the hectic of getting from here to there, we loose sight of the horizon. “The Urban Horizon” gives it back to us. A digital LED light line on the bottom edge of the cornice of the building abstracts the course of the light of the natural horizon. The color gradient of the evening sky occur so slowly on the horizon, that a change in colors can only be realized of the course of approximately 5 minutes. The light line appears to be completely static for passers-by. One can only notice a difference once passed at a later point in time.
Once the “Urban Horizon” passed through an artificial sunset, a deep blue remains symbolically for the “blue hour”.
The “artificial” horizon is a symbol for vision, perspective, hope and optimism.
